“What’s the talk of the town?”

“Football and the World Cup, huh?”

“Nope.”

“It’s July… Mmm… The Spider-Man release?”

“Umm… Closer.”

“Oh, just tell me, please.”

“It’s Messi in a Spider-Man promo!”

“Wait, ¿CÓMO?! OMG!!”

A Striking Crossover

Messi fans, still buzzing after his World Cup performances, just got another surprise— this time on the big screen.

The first promo for ‘The Spider-Man: Brand New Day‘ brings together a football hero and a superhero, pairing Messi with Tom Holland in an unexpected crossover.

It’s not just a treat for Messi fans. Spider-Man fans and movie lovers have plenty to get excited about, too. And the video has been shared with the caption “Who’s got next?” hinting that there could be more in store ahead of the film’s July 31, 2026, release.

The Promo

The video starts with Tom Holland as Peter Parker talking to someone over the phone in a coffee shop when he suddenly spots Messi entering. Caught completely by surprise, Peter abruptly ends the call and, visibly stunned, stumbles before falling to the ground- literally “falling” for the football icon.

They then interact, Holland speaking in English and the man at the counter translating it into Spanish. Messi then reveals that he is there hunting for Spider-Man by showing the tracker on his phone.

Holland then just disappears into a room. At that point, the man at the counter says simple but striking words, “Welcome to New York.”

And at that moment, Peter jumps to the scene as Spider-Man, landing in his iconic pose.

The surprise now shifts to Messi’s face. And everything is quick. “Are you good with heights?” And before fully reacting with a “What” in Spanish (¿Cómo?), Spider-Man grabs Messi and drops down from a height with his web-slinger swinging.

A simple, unexpected 20 seconds in a 40-second video! It’s definitely being discussed for the twist, and the crores Messi may have earned.

But this is not the first time Messi has been in a movie promotion.

Bad Boys Trailer: Lionel Messi + Jimmy Butler Cameo

NBA Star Jimmy Butler and Lionel Messi made a surprise appearance in the ‘Bad Boys: Ride or Die‘–”Whatcha Gonna Do Jimmy Butler” trailer, joining actors Will Smith and Martin Lawrence in the fourth instalment of the Bad Boys franchise in 2024. Spotted in 15 seconds of a 3:09-minute trailer.

That was a pure sports crossover set against the vibrant backdrop of Miami. Butler comes to seek guidance to become a “Bad Boy” from Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett, portrayed by the iconic duo Will Smith and Martin Lawrence, respectively. They put him through training; however, Butler ultimately chooses to stick with basketball and join the Miami Heat.

And that’s when the soccer boy Messi arrives.

The Inter Miami star Lionel Messi makes a cameo, knocking on the door of the “Bad Boys” at the same house. Smith and Lawrence humorously redirect Messi, indicating that he has stumbled upon the “wrong casa” (wrong house), shutting the door on him.

You know the best part of the short-lived appearance? Messi utters one simple line in English, asking, “Bad Boys?”, marking a rare moment where he steps into English. And it definitely has a touch of his native Spanish flair.

US, Messi and Movie Again!

Rumours Unverified: Reports and social media discussions indicate Lionel Messi was paid roughly $15 million for his brief promotional cameo in Bad Boys: Ride or Die. Lionel Messi reportedly earned another staggering $15 million for his 20-second cameo in the Spider-Man teaser.

Whether it’s a clever marketing stunt or the beginning of more celebrity collaborations, Messi’s unexpected appearance has successfully united football fans, Marvel fanatics and Spider-Man fans, making the short promo one of the most talked-about entertainment crossovers of the year.
